Fan Fiction with a twist

No matter how I try... I cannot seem to come up with any GOOD ideas for fic pertaining to AB & Good Eats. So, I decided to go in a slightly different direction with someone familiar: BA.

So, I took a bit of trivia thrown out by AB during an Ask portion on one of the DVDs where he commented, off the top of his head, that BA lived in Albuquerque. I came up with a reason why he ended up there & turned it into a short fic. This is definitely going to be a series of, most likely, short stories about BA, with the occasional guest appearance by AB.

Here's the first installment:

Pre-1999 (& pre-Good Eats)

The sun had already begun to set when he left the auto garage, motorcycle helmet under his arm. With sunglasses in place, he headed for his cherished Harley. He didn't go for the fancy bikes his brother liked. He grinned as he walked up to the 1965 Harley Davidson Flh Electra Glide with its white-flame paint job against the black body.

BA sat on the bike, started it up, then sighed, putting his helmet on. Speaking of his brother, he needed to see him.

BA revved the bike, then headed off, headed for his brother's house.

Out in the backyard, the swing barely moved. It's occupant had long ago fallen asleep, one leg stretched out over the arm, the other leg had been moving the swing during consciousness. A straw hat was perfectly placed to keep the sun from the man's eyes.

In the distance, a motorcycle could be heard moving closer. It came closer still, yet the man in the swing didn't budge. The motorcycle engine was cut and BA appeared at the gate in the fence. He smirked then reached over the door to let himself in, something that his brother hated.

BA walked up behind the swing and pulled the hat off his sleeping brother's face. "Hey, sleeping ugly, wake up!"

Alton winced as he came back to consciousness, now minus the hat that had shielded his face so well. "BA?"

"No, it's the Easter Bunny," BA commented, dropping the hat on Alton's stomach.

"Funny," Alton said, grabbing his hat, then sat up and put the hat on his head. "What's going on?"

BA stopped at the end of the swing and leaned against the wooden frame. "I need money."

"So what else is new?" Alton said. They'd been through this song and dance before.

"Al, I swear this is it, this time," BA said, seriously.

Alton sighed. He hated that nickname and BA knew it, but he used it nonetheless. "What is it?"

"Albuquerque," BA replied.

Alton felt a headache coming on. "Albuquerque? Why there?"

"Automotive Tech certification by the National Auto Technicians Education Foundation," BA rattled off.

Despite the fact that his brother actually sounded like he knew what he was talking about, Alton was still skeptical. "And you couldn't get that around here?"

BA pulled his sunglasses off. "I tried everything nearby. They wouldn't accept me. Central New Mexico was the only one that did so that's where I'm going. Bro, I can't keep going the way I am... and mooching offa you all the time. We're 36. You've got that show of yours coming up in a few months. Me, what've I got? An auto garage that barely gets me minimum wage."

"I'm sorry, BA," Alton began, "I didn't know that you'd been rejected..."

"By almost everyone?" BA finished, then shrugged. "So what? I got accepted somewhere. I only needed one."

"It's too bad it's almost all the way across the country," Alton reminded him.

BA smirked, "Awe, little bro gonna miss me?"

"You're two minutes older than me, BA," Alton said, "that hardly constitutes me being a 'little brother'."

"Whatever. You went to Vermont! I'm going to New Mexico. I'll be back," BA said.

"Fine, alright, I'll help you out," Alton said, then sighed.

"Was that so difficult?" BA asked, with a grin.

Alton, straight-faced, replied, "Yes."

I found your blog from the All About Alton blog. I'm going to the book signing tomorrow as well, but I'm not sure what to expect. How early should we get there?
